Skinshape, the musical alter ego of Will Dorey from Swanage, England, is back with his ninth album, Another Side of Skinshape. As the title suggests, this album marks a fresh evolution in his sound. But true to form, Dorey maintains that distinctive Skinshape essence—a dreamy, sun-soaked nostalgia that weaves through all of his music like a golden thread.
This time around, Dorey draws on a wide range of influences, from childhood memories to Ethiopian rhythms and even the meditative beauty of calls to prayer.
The result is a journey into some of the most intriguing and hidden corners of his creative mind. Tracks like “It’s About Time” and “Ananda” show off a more synthesized sound than we’re used to from Skinshape, while singles like “Stornoway” and “Lady Sun” (featuring the soulful and ethereal vocals of West London’s Hollie Cook) tap into the same warm, familiar vibe that fans will recognize from albums like Nostalgia and Craterellus Tubaeformis.
Dorey pushed the boundaries of his sound while making Another Side of Skinshape, experimenting with an array of keyboards and drum machines. You’ll even hear live drumming courtesy of Thomas Blunt, a frequent Skinshape collaborator, and Dorey’s touring band member.
Speaking of live performances, the album drops just in time for a string of U.K. and U.S. tour dates—the first-ever proper Skinshape tour.
Beyond Skinshape, Dorey’s musical resume is impressive. A former member of the band Palace, he’s played iconic venues like Glastonbury, Maida Vale, and Shepherd’s Bush Empire. His track “I Didn’t Know” has racked up over 50 million streams, a testament to his ability to craft music that resonates deeply.
The new record is another solid entry into Skinshape’s discography and will bring some sunshine into your life as the weather gets cooler here in the Northern Hemisphere.
