A new release from El Paraiso Records introduces us to Lotus, an audacious exploration into a realm where genres dissolve and new sonic landscapes emerge. Percussionist Olaf Olsen (Fra Det Onde, Needlepoint) is at its helm, whose rhythmic mastery sets the stage for a thrilling auditory adventure.
He’s joined by dynamic bassist Chris Holm (Orions Belte), whose groove is as deep as it is innovative. Norwegian-based Danish alto saxophonist Signe Emmeluth brings her evocative tones to the mix, while electric guitarist Karl Bjorå adds his signature touch—making his guitar waver and oscillate like a synthesizer in the hands of an alchemist.
Together, these virtuosos forge a sound that defies traditional boundaries. Their debut album, Synthbuljong, released on August 30th, is a vibrant showcase of their genre-defying artistry.
From the explosive, Coltrane-meets-Sonic Youth intensity of the opening track to the serene space of “Ballade,” each track is a transformative trip. The seventeen-minute epic, “Synthgitar,” epitomizes their sound, blending intricate improvisation with a boundary-pushing spirit.
Rooted in the tradition of Scandinavian free jazz, Lotus invites listeners to surrender to its organic soundscapes. Fans of El Paraiso—which never disappoints—will love this new debut record brought to us from the label of ‘freedom fuzz.’
