Red Light Acid Test is an alternative rock band that emerged from London’s rock scene in 2019. In addition to having a killer band name, the four-piece group merges grunge’s spit and fury with post-punk’s angular rhythms to create an intense, brooding sound that borders on stoner rock.

RLAT has released six singles since 2020 to wide acclaim, and they’re recording their debut full-length album that’s set for release in spring 2025. The London gents are also gigging regularly in the Southeast U.K., so check their website and social media pages for dates if you want to check them out.

The band’s newest song, “Don’t Panic!,” was recorded live one evening at Signal House Studios in Hatfield, U.K. by the producer Tim Kramer. RLAT says about the song, “Worried about World War III, populist psychopaths being elected as heads of state, rabid Tories, and the ever-accelerating climate crisis? DON’T PANIC!! Just shut your eyes.”

Watch the video for “Don’t Panic” below:

Am I worried about these things? Yes, a little bit. All except for the rabid Tories because I live in the U.S. and not in the U.K. I’ve mentioned it before on The Third Eye, and I’ll say it again: Tons of artists – psych artists included – are writing songs and making records about our collective and seemingly worldwide existential angst—more power to them. If channeling the misery and confusion of today’s age into art is helping, then I say let’s keep doing it.

Musically, “Don’t Panic!” is a powerful song that reminds me of some of the great alt-rockers of the Nineties, like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. RLAT hasn’t released much music since their first single in 2020, but it’s all quality. All six of their singles are also available as free downloads on their website. It seems they take the quality over quantity approach, which can be rare nowadays.

If you like “Don’t Panic!,” check out RLAT’s previous singles on YouTube, Spotify, or wherever you listen to music. If you’re in the U.K., you may also get the chance to catch the band live. Red Light Acid Test is headlining the Civil War night at the Hope and Anchor, N1, on Saturday, June 22nd. Enjoy!
