The mysterious Barcelona-based psych-rockers Magick Brother & Mystic Sister have returned with a new single, “The Hierophant,” off their upcoming double concept albums, Tarot Pt.1 and Tarot Pt. 2. The records will comprise 22 songs based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot, a cross-cultural dream language. Echodelick Records will have limited copies of Tarot Pt. 1, which is scheduled for release on March 29th via Sound Effect Records.

MBMS creates imaginative compositions featuring space-age keys and spiraling synth, intricate guitar mosaics and bass lines, powerful drums, exotic percussion, flute, and more for an incredible psychedelic listening experience. It all comes together in a dream-prog, cosmic jazz, and magical folk not to be missed.

The band will release its new album in two parts, giving us more time to meditate on their mind-expanding music and the mysteries of Tarot. “This is an album meant to be listened to and experienced visually on vinyl – when the two records are combined, the interior gatefolds form an astrological mandala, a planetary wheel,” the band says.

“The Hierophant” is a face-melting piece of psychedelia featuring swirling guitars cascading like waves, carrying us on an otherworldly journey. The combination of the sitar and space-age synth is fantastic, paired with ethereal vocals that float through the track. Overall, the song weaves an impressive tapestry of surreal sounds and imagery.

If you like MBMS’s new single, check out their debut self-titled album from 2020. The band bends reality with bursts of lysergic effects and a rich, immersive sound that dazzles and shimmers – some of the best psych rock I’ve heard this year. Stay tuned to Echodelick Records’ and MBMS’s social media and Bandcamp page for updates on the new record’s release. Enjoy!
