New Single: ‘Feed The Forest’ by Daisy Rickman

Daisy Rickman is an artist and musician from Cornwall (U.K.) specializing in painting and folk music, and she recently released the first single from her upcoming album. “Feed The Forest” is the song’s name, and the album Howl will be released on the Spring Equinox on March 20th.

Rickman explains that “Howl” is Cornish for “Sun,” the new record is a collection of songs she recorded at home in Cornwall while living in Dorset, created between the Winter Solstice 2020 and Beltane 2023. The songs are an homage to the Sun and the Stars and explorations of the cycles within ourselves and throughout the turning wheel of the year.

Daisy is the only artist you’ll hear playing on the new record, and you’ll hear a mix of singing, acoustic guitar, 12-string, double bass, drums, sitar, cello, banjo, accordion, clarinet, fiddle, synthesizer, and bouzouki. She says that recording an album alone can be a blessing and a curse. She enjoyed recording at home alone and the solitary space of creation when experimenting with making new music. However, recording without the presence and input of others made the process longer and created more self-doubt.

Daisy dedicated the new album to her grandmother, Barbara J. Rickman, whose spirit guided and stayed close to her while creating the new record. “Signpost to the Stars” was written for her grandmother and is “for all those longing to be in the stars with loved ones who have passed.”

The multi-talented Daisy also designed the beautiful album artwork and oil paintings featured in the vinyl. The painting on the album cover is called “Benow Howl,” which in Cornish means “Feminine Sun.” The piece is from a series of paintings Daisy made in 2021 during the same period many of the record’s new songs were written, and it’s also an ode to the work of one of her favorite painters, Hilma af Klint.

Weird Walk will release a Limited Special Edition of Howl on gold vinyl, including an art print of Daisy’s painting “Ode to The Sun of the Black and White Universe.” Daisy’s and Weird Walk’s vinyl versions are limited to 500 copies.

The first single, “Feed The Forest,” was released on January 20th, followed by the second single, “Signpost to the Stars” on February 20th. March 13th will see the release of “Bleujen an Howl,” followed by the album’s full release on March 20th.

“Feed The Forest” is a beautiful and mysterious piece of experimental folk music, and Daisy’s spiritual influences on the song are apparent. She takes us deep into the mystique of Cornwall, and you can hear her communing with the divine, the sun, the stars, and all the sacred energies she draws from.
