The world is crazy right now, and tons of bad stuff is happening, but we can still have good things. One of those good things is King Buffalo announcing a brand-new album, Regenerator, to be released on September 2nd.
The Heavy Psych rockers from Rochester, New York, have been busy since the start of the pandemic in 2020, channeling the chaos of the times into some great music. Regenerator is the third installment of the band’s “pandemic trilogy,” including 2021’s The Burden of Restlessness and Acheron. King Buffalo wanted to release Regenerator as part of three albums in 2021, but it got pushed back due to logistical issues. I’m sure not complaining, though.
Regenerator is the band’s fifth studio album, and it’ll be released on exclusive white vinyl and CD. Presales start on July 15th.
King Buffalo is currently touring Europe, and they return to the U.S. in September for more shows through November. Psych Rock fans will have plenty of chances to see the mighty King Buffalo in Europe and North America these next few months, and I highly suggest you do.
King Buffalo released the title track off the new album on YouTube, their website, and their Bandcamp page, and it rocks. “Regenerator” clocks in at 9 minutes, and 37 seconds, combining their signature blend of Space and Heavy Psych rock and muscular riffage.
The power trio of Sean McVay (vocals, guitar), Scott Donaldson (drums), and Dan Reynolds (bass) formed the band in 2013 and has developed an international following. They’re one of my favorite psych-rock bands because they have an expansive, thundering sound that’s easy-to-get lost in. Most every King Buffalo album features long, stoner-esque jams, beautiful guitar solos, and prog rock pyrotechnics.
